Die bakteriostatisch wirkende Azelainsäure verbessert die Hauthygiene, verringert den Anteil der freien Fettsäuren in den Hautoberflächenlipiden und wirkt auf die DNA der Keratinozyten, indem sie ihr Wachstum und ihre Teilung verlangsamt, was dazu beiträgt, die übermäßige Verhornung der Epithelzellen der Haut zu verringern.
